With Heartfelt Thanks
A letter from Sandalwood Community Food Pantry · July 23, 2026
Dear Friends of the Pantry,
Thank you for your friendship and support for our Resilient Pantry with the many past sponsorships for our Run for Hunger and especially for the last 2 years with our Annual Golf Fore Hunger event. In times such as these, we continue to see more families arriving at our pantry — and yet we remain hopeful that no one goes to bed hungry on our island. Our little ones give you a thumbs up, because they know all too well that hunger hurts their tummies every day. We continue to serve outdoors, every Tuesday for the past 18 years, never missing a day!
As many of you know, on March 18, 2025, the Town Council of HHI blessed us with a 50-year lease on town-owned land, and our dream of a Resilient Pantry is becoming a reality! We finally broke ground in June and have begun building the Pantry and Pavilion. Now we must raise the remaining funds needed to get us through to the finish line. Our new Pantry will continue to provide — and hopefully even grow and harvest — fruit and vegetables, to distribute along with fish, dairy, eggs, proteins, breads, desserts, vegan foods, and basic needs, toiletries, diapers, detergents, paper products and so much more. This Resilient Pantry will stand strong for generations to come, so that no parent will ever have to worry about putting their child or pet to bed hungry on Hilton Head Island.
There is much need, and we are so blessed and filled with gratitude for your past support. We now humbly ask that you consider a sponsorship once again for our 3rd Annual Golf Fore Hunger event, held on Friday, November 13, 2026, at the beautiful Palmetto Hall Golf Course. We have been blessed since our humble beginnings when I opened the doors at Sandalwood Terrace Apartments on Feb. 17, 2009, and fed the first 5 families. In 2024 we served 3,931 families — 13,446 folks — and have over 90 wonderful volunteers who bring added joy to our work. Your support at this golf event allows us to move forward as a Beloved Community, building a safe Resilient Pantry to call home, where our clients can be safe by choice and not by chance when the next hurricane or pandemic hits our island. Hurricanes and pandemics will come and go, but hunger is never-ending. Besides serving many more families healthy foods and basic needs, we will offer life-changing services: workshops in job training, nutrition education, voter registration, stretch classes, weekly BP monitoring and so much more — for we know that people, much more than things, must be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed and redeemed, but never thrown away, because as we have always known, there are no throwaways!
Peace & Grace,
Nannette, George & Kathleen
