The Foundation Is Poured — Standing on Solid Rock

“The blessed and long-awaited day has arrived.”

After more than 17 years of serving our neighbors on Hilton Head Island — bag by bag, Tuesday by Tuesday, family by family — we reached a milestone this week that once felt like a distant dream: the foundation of our new Sandalwood Resilient Pantry Campus has been poured.

It was a day we have prayed for, worked toward, and believed in through every season of this ministry. And when the moment came, it was everything we hoped it would be — and more.

A Day Worth Every Step of the Journey

We arrived on site with Wesley by our side and joy in our hearts that simply could not be contained. Watching the concrete pour — watching the very ground of this campus take shape — was one of those moments where time slows down and gratitude fills every corner of the room.

We are grateful beyond words to Graves Construction Company for their expertise, their care, and their commitment to this project. With Mr. Graves Sr. — “Ling” — watching over the work with his careful gaze, we knew we were in the right hands. As it is written, we will be standing on solid rock, not shifting sand.

Words Written in the Cement

Later that afternoon, as the rain began to fall, something moved us to return to the site. There, in the quiet of the wet afternoon, with the rain coming down around us, we knelt down and wrote in the still-drying cement — words that will now be part of this foundation forever.

Written into the Foundation — September 2026

“To Love & Serve”

Written by Rev. Dr. Nannette Pierson into the wet cement at 3:30 pm, as the rain fell on the new foundation of the Sandalwood Resilient Pantry Campus — words that will remain in this ground for generations.

Those words — To Love & Serve — are not just a motto. They are the heartbeat of everything this pantry has ever been, and everything this new campus will become. They are now permanently part of the ground we stand on. We would not have it any other way.

How Far We Have Come

Standing at that site, we could not help but look back across 17-plus years of this journey. The early days in Sandalwood Terrace. The Tuesday mornings in all kinds of weather. The families who became part of our story. The community — near and far — that held us up when we needed it most.

This foundation represents all of that. It is the physical answer to years of prayer, sacrifice, and steadfast belief that hunger hurts, and we will not let it win.

“To see how far we’ve come these past 17 years and more — this is a day of celebration. A day to give thanks for every person who believed in this mission before the ground was ever broken.”

— Rev. Dr. Nannette Pierson, Founder & Director

We Still Need Your Help to Cross the Finish Line

This foundation is a beginning, not an ending. The work ahead — walls, roof, distribution spaces, community rooms, and everything that will make this campus come alive for the families we serve — requires the continued generosity of our community near and far.

We are so close. And we need you now more than ever.

To every donor, volunteer, sponsor, and prayer warrior who has walked this journey with us — thank you. Your belief in this mission is written into this foundation just as surely as those words in the cement.

Let us continue, together, to Love, Serve, and Remember our neighbors in need — for this generation, and for all the generations to come.
